Did you know that the United States has a special employment visa or status available just for its southern and northern country neighbors? If you are a Canadian or Mexican citizen professional (such as an engineer, registered nurse, social worker, interior designer, university teacher, pharmacist, or

psychologist) and are interested in working in the United States, you may be eligible for a TN visa or TN status. TN stands for "Trade NAFTA".


The TN visa or classification is a nonimmigrant employment visa or status that allows citizens of Canada and Mexico to work temporarily in the United States in certain occupations. The occupations above are not the only eligible occupations! TN classification may be available to you if you have been hired by a U.S. employer, and if you possess the degree qualifications, professional experience, or license for the particular profession (for example, an engineer would need at least a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree, or a state/provincial license).


If approved, you will be able to work in the U.S. for the duration of your work assignment, usually up to three years. Your TN visa or status may be renewed or extended indefinitely, and you can live in the U.S. with your family members while working.
